
Dr. Sheena Mathew
The practice is headed by Dr. Sheena Mathew, Specialist Family Physician, who completed her 4-year Family Medicine speciality at the University of Stellenbosch and her medical degree at the University of Witwatersrand. She is currently Vice President of SAAFP (South African Academy of Family Physicians) and Chairperson of Specialist Family Physicians In Private (SFPP). She is also a honorary senior lecturer for the UCT Family Medicine department and has been involved in the post-graduate training of Family Medicine registrars. Dr. Mathew has been in practice for over 20 years, during which time she has worked in the South African public and private sector as well as at a private hospital in the United Kingdom (London).
She has considerable expertise in managing patients at both a primary care level and district hospital level. She enjoys the clinical diversity of being able to manage gynaecology, paediatric, psychiatry, surgical and general medical patients. Her specialist training also comprised of the management of obstetric patients, performing caesarean sections, general anaesthesia and outpatient surgical procedures.
Although she has trained mainly in western medicine she firmly believes in the benefits of nutrition and natural medicine to optimize and maintain one’s health. Her unique approach of combining both western and eastern philosophies of medical care results in the distinguished quality of care that her patient’s value.

Desiree Libera – Practice Manager
Affectionately known as Des to our patients, Desiree is the heart of Blouberg Family Practice and Dr Mathew’s trusted right hand.
Des joined Dr Mathew in 2018 to open the practice and has been instrumental in shaping its welcoming, patient-centered environment ever since. With 17 years of experience as a Marketing and Brand Manager, Des brings strong leadership, strategic thinking, and an exceptional eye for detail to the day-to-day running of the practice.
She also holds an International Dance Teacher Diploma and has a natural flair for communication and connection—skills that shine through in her interactions with every patient. Having grown up around the medical field, Des is no stranger to the healthcare world and has a deep understanding of the emotional and practical needs of patients.
Whether it’s the warm voice you hear on the phone or the kind smile that greets you at the door, Des ensures that every visit feels personal, reassuring, and professional. You’re in the best hands with Des.

Liesl Mallinson – Admin Support
Liesl is a dedicated wife and mother of three, with a deep faith in Jesus that guides her life and work. She joined Blouberg Family Practice to support the admin team and assist our Practice Manager, Des.
With a diverse background that spans personal assistance, event coordination, retail management, insurance, optometry, and music tutoring, she brings a wealth of experience to our practice. Her versatile ventures have also included owning a florist shop, working in education, and assisting with both film projects and family logistics.
She’s passionate about uplifting others and creating calm, joyful environments wherever she goes and does this by serving with kindness, encouragement, and purpose.

Memory Makhoni -Housekeeper
Memory is the unseen fairy who ensures our practice remains clean, calm, and tranquil – nurturing the healing environment we strive to create. A single mother of three beautiful daughters, her journey from Zimbabwe is one of profound courage, resilience, and unwavering determination to build a better life for her family.
